Summer 2024
This summer at Procter & Gamble was a transformative experience that went beyond the technical challenges and projects, which I’m unable to detail due to confidentiality. What truly stood out were the opportunities for personal growth and the development of essential soft skills that are just as crucial as technical expertise in a professional environment.
From day one, I was determined to make the most of my internship by immersing myself in the wealth of knowledge and resources available. My curiosity drove me to dive deep into research papers, not just those directly related to my project but also others that provided a broader understanding of the industry’s cutting-edge innovations. This self-directed learning allowed me to stay informed and think critically about how the latest advancements could be applied to our work.
Conducting a market and landscape assessment was another eye-opening aspect of my internship. It gave me a comprehensive view of where Procter & Gamble stands in the industry, what the competitors are doing, and where the future of consumer goods packaging is headed. This broader perspective was invaluable, helping me connect the dots between market trends and the technical work we were doing in the lab.
Meeting with other scientists at P&G was perhaps one of the most enriching parts of my summer. These interactions were more than just networking opportunities; they were moments of mentorship and knowledge exchange. Whether it was discussing the latest research, troubleshooting a problem, or exploring new ideas, these conversations deepened my understanding of the processes, technologies, and innovations that drive the company forward. The willingness of these professionals to share their insights was inspiring, and it underscored the importance of collaboration and continuous learning in this field.
Engaging with vendors also played a crucial role in my development. These meetings were not just about understanding the materials and technologies available but also about learning how to communicate effectively, negotiate, and build professional relationships. It was a real-world application of soft skills that will be invaluable throughout my career.
This summer would not have been as enriching without the guidance and support of my mentors at Procter & Gamble. They provided me with invaluable insights and constructive feedback, helping me navigate the complexities of the projects I was involved in. Their willingness to share their knowledge and experiences not only accelerated my learning but also inspired me to approach challenges with a growth mindset. I am deeply grateful for their mentorship, which has been instrumental in shaping my professional development.
This summer was about much more than the technical work I was assigned. It was about cultivating a mindset of curiosity, self-motivation, and continuous learning. I gained a deeper understanding of the industry and learned how to navigate the complex landscape of innovation and technology. As I move forward in my career, these experiences will continue to shape my approach to problem-solving and professional growth.
